THEME: EVERYTHING IS FROM GOD?

MEMORISE: I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. John 15:5

READ: Judges 16:20-21

[20]And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him.

[21]But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison house.

MESSAGE

Today's Bible reading tells the story of Samson, who defeated an entire army with the jaw bone of an ass. Samson was really strong; however, his strength was not from him but from God. I know this because every time the Bible talks about his feats, it starts with: "And the Spirit of the Lord came upon him." (Judges 14:5 - 6:15:14). One day, he was captured by the Philistines, and he said, "I will arise and go out as at other times..." However, he didn't know that the Spirit of God had left him.

Many people are like Samson; they forget that their talents and gifts were given to them by God. Therefore, when they do something so well and people commend them, they take all the credit instead of giving God the glory. Learn from Herod, who was eaten by worms (Acts 12:21-23). Never forget that the source of your gifts and skills is God. Hence, resist the urge to take credit; otherwise, another person will soon take your place.

KEY POINT

When people commend you, return the glory to God.

HYMN 11 - O LORD MY GOD, WHEN AM IN AWESOME WONDER,

1. O lord my God!

When am in awesome wonder,

consider all

The worlds thy hands hath made

I see the stars,

I heard the rolling thunder

Thy pow'r thro' out

The universe displayed

CHORUS

Then sing my soul,

My savior God to thee;

How great Thou art!

How great Thou art!

Then sing my soul,

My savior God to thee;

How great Thou art!

How great Thou art!

2. Then through the woods

And forest glads I wander,

And hear the birds

Sing sweetly in the tress;

When I look down

From lofty mountain grandeur

And hear the brook

And feel the gentle breeze;

3. And when I think

That God, His Son not sparing

Sent Him to die

I scare can take it in;

That on the cross,

My burden gladly bearing,

He bled and died

To take away my sin.

4. When Christ shall come

With shout of acclamation

And take me home,

What joy shall fill my heart!

Then I shall bow

In humble adoration

And there proclaim,

My God how great Thou art!
