TOPIC: APPLY THE BRAKES
BY PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE & PASTOR (MRS) FOLU ADEBOYE
MEMORISE: Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7
READ: Ephesians 6:10-11
[10]Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
[11]Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
MESSAGE
When a driver is behind the wheels and perceives danger. ahead, he or she will simply apply the brakes and make a U-turn or reverse to take another route. As a child of God, you cannot avoid being tempted. However, when you face temptations, you should apply the brakes. Applying the brakes in this context means resisting any urge to yield to temptation.
The devil constantly looks for ways to bring the children of God into his camp; however, the Lord has given them the power to overcome those temptations (1 Corinthians 10:13). You can only exercise the power to overcome temptations in the place of prayer. Life is a constant warfare, especially if you are in Christ. In order to overcome this warfare, you need to spend time in the place of prayer and flee all appearances of evil. If you move about with people who claim to be Christians but exhibit traits of unbelievers, correct them in love. However, if they refuse to change, my dear child, please cut off from them so you will not become like them.
Beloved, being tempted is not a sin. In fact, it will help you to build your strength and maturity in Christ. However, yielding to temptation is a sin. Do not yield to temptation.
KEY POINT
When you are faced with temptations, apply the brakes.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR
2 Kings 9:14-10:31 Acts 17:1-34
HYMN 20 - CHRISTIAN, SEEK NOT YET REPOSE
1 Christian, seek not yet repose;
Hear thy guardian angel say,
"Thou art in the midst of foes:
Watch and pray!"
2 Principalities and powers ,
Mustering their unseen array,
Wait for thy unguarded hours:
"Watch and pray."
3 Gird thy heavenly armour on;
Wear it every night and day
Ambush'd lies the evil one:
"Watch and pray."
4 Hear the victors who o'ercame;
Still they mark each warrior's way;
All with one sweet voice exclaim,
"Watch and pray!"
5 Watch, as if on that alone
Hung the issue of the day;
Pray, that help may be sent down:
Watch and pray.
6 Hear, above all, hear thy Lord,
Him thou lovest to obey;
Hide within thy heart His word
"Watch and pray!"
